First Vice Foreign Minister Meets with the President of the US’ Georgetown University

1. On November 11, First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam met President John DeGioia and Director of Asian Studies Victor Cha of Georgetown University, who were in the Republic of Korea on a visit. In the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the need to promote Korean studies in the US and to boost public diplomacy between the ROK and the US.

2. The delegation from Georgetown University, which is working to establish in its Asian studies program the third professorship in Korean studies, mentioned that the purpose of its visit to the ROK was to seek closer cooperation with Korean universities and other relevant organizations, and asked the ROK government to pay attention to and render assistance with its efforts to lay the institutional groundwork to that end.

3. Vice Minister Lim, commending Georgetown University for its important role in the development of Korea experts that will lead relevant opinions in the US, asked it to remain attentive to efforts to advance the ROK-US relations.

° The Vice Minister, voicing hope for further development of the ROK-US relations during the term of the incoming US administration, asked Georgetown University to render robust cooperation and support to the ROK government with regard to its public diplomacy toward the US.
