MIKTA to Hold its 8th Foreign Ministerial Meeting

Date
2016-11-17
hit

1. The eighth foreign ministerial meeting of MIKTA -- Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey and Australia -- will take place in Sydney, Australia, on November 25, as agreed at the seventh of its kind in New York on September 22.

2. The meeting will cover ways that MIKTA can contribute on key global issues; ways for the member states of MIKTA to work together in the humanitarian field; and ways to tighten the solidarity among the member states of MIKTA. Amid the growing uncertainty in the international community, the meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity for MIKTA, which was launched about four years ago, to seek ways to contribute to efforts to stabilize the international order.

3. At the meeting, Minister Yun will take note of the role of MIKTA since the launch of its foreign ministerial consultative mechanism in the formative course of international norms and propose that MIKTA play a more constructive role together with the G7 and BRICs on the international stage.

° The Minister will stress that North Korea’s repeated violations of Security Council resolutions pose a threat to not only the international nonproliferation regime but also the norms-based international order that MIKTA upholds. On that note, he will ask the other members of MIKTA to play active roles in that regard.
