1. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ethiopia hosted a “night of the ROK- African Union friendship” event in Addis Ababa on November 15 to enhance the ROK-AU relations.

The first such event held in Addis Ababa, the host of the AU, brought together some 500 people, including ranking officials of the AU, high-level government officials of Ethiopia, diplomats to Ethiopia and Korean residents in the country, who appreciated and celebrated the advances in the ROK-AU relations over the past decade.

In his celebratory remarks, the ROK’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Kim Moon-hwan brought renewed attention to the fact that President Park Geun-hye, for the first time ever for an ROK President, had visited the AU in May 2016 and put forward ways for the ROK and the Africa to work together across the board in her special address, calling it a significant watershed in the ROK-AU relationship. He added that the ROK government will make efforts for the ROK and Africa to move forward into the future as important partners to each other.

4. The event featured performances of various traditional dances and music of Korea, drawing acclaim and applause.

5. Going forward, the ROK Embassy in Ethiopia will seek closer cooperation between the ROK and Africa as “Mutually Beneficial Partners for a New Future” and stronger relations with the AU, the leading regional organization in Africa.
