1. The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to offer humanitarian assistance worth some 300,000 US dollars to Peru, which sustained massive damage from El Niño-triggered heavy rains and ensuing landslides in coastal areas for two weeks from early March 2017.

2. The contribution from the ROK government, including 200,000 US dollars in cash and such relief supplies as tents and tarpaulin worth 100,000 US dollars, is expected to help victims restore stability in their lives and affected regions recover from the damage.

3. Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn sent a letter of sympathy to President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski of Peru on March 23 to extend condolences and sympathy to the people of Peru over the massive damage to people and property from the heavy rains and landslides.

4. The government of the ROK, a responsible middle-power country of the international community, will strengthen its “humanitarian diplomacy” in a bid to help countries and people recover from natural disasters caused by climate change.
