1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Kim Hong-kyun will have a meeting of the ROK and Chinese chief negotiators for the Six-Party Talks and dinner with China’s Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Wu Dawei in Seoul on April 10.

2. The upcoming meeting of the ROK and Chinese chief negotiators for the Six-Party Talks will mark the first this year since the last meeting in Beijing on December 9 last year. Amid the grave situation where North Korea is continuing provocations this year, in addition to its provocations last year, the ROK and Chinese sides will focus their discussion on all issues regarding North Korea and its nuclear program.

3. In particular, as the meeting will come right after the US-China summit meeting, it is expected to serve as an opportunity to hear China’s assessments of the outcome of discussion on the North Korean nuclear issue, which will be a key agenda for the summit meeting.

4. US chief negotiator for the Six-Party Talks Joseph Yun recently visited Russia, China’s chief negotiator for the Talks will visit the ROK, and a meeting of the ROK, US and Japanese chief negotiators for the Six-Party Talks is expected to be held soon. Such robust bilateral and trilateral engagements within the framework of the Six-Party Talks demonstrate the severity and urgency of the North Korean nuclear issue.
