1. Consul General of the Republic of Korea to Los Angeles Lee Key-cheol and Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation John H. Halikowski signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Mutual Recognition and Exchange of Driver’s Licenses between the Korean National Police Agency and the Arizona Department of Transportation on June 27, 2017 (local time).
o The MOU, when brought into force, will allow ROK nationals residing in Arizona and the citizens of Arizona residing in the ROK to exchange their non-commercial driver’s licenses with ones issued by the other side without further driving test, thereby greatly improving driving license-related administrative convenience.
2. The MOU will enter into force immediately after being signed.
3. The Foreign Ministry will actively seek to sign agreements on the mutual recognition of driver’s licenses with other US states and countries with many Korean residents in continued efforts to resolve difficulties faced by Koreans overseas and promote their convenience.
o As of June, 2017, the ROK has signed memorandums of understanding on the mutual recognition of driver’s licenses with 22 states out of 50 states and 1 district of the US.
