1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold the launching ceremony of the “6th group of global green growth supporters” at the reception hall on the 18th floor of the Foreign Ministry building on July 19, and also hold a “green growth camp” at Chungho Human Resource Development Center (Hwaseong in Gyeonggi Province) from July 19 to 21.

o The “global green growth supporters,” whose sixth group has been formed this year since its creation in 2012, is a project which aims to raise Korean youth’s understanding of global green and environmental issues and measures to address them through education and hands-on experience, as well as provide them with an opportunity to explore creative ways of global cooperation. A total of 24 teams consisting of 72 undergraduate and graduate students participate in the project this year.

o At the sixth green growth camp, the participating students will learn about the green environmental diplomacy; be given lectures on major international issues, including climate change, energy, and global environmental cooperation, as well as English language classes related to international conferences; and visit Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station, all of which are activities that will help them better understand green growth.

2. Those who complete the entire supporters’ programs that will last until November, including making environment-related blogs and attending environment-related events and meetings, and submit a paper or policy proposal on green growth or environment by October will receive certificates of completion signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

o Furthermore, one team which has been selected as an outstanding team through presentations and examinations on papers and policy proposals will be given the Foreign Minister’s Award and a participant selected as the best student will be provided with an opportunity to attend an international conference.

3. The activities of the global green growth supporters are expected to become a good opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students willing to work in the field of international cooperation on green growth to gain knowledge and experience regarding major global issues, such as green growth, climate change and energy.
