1. On August 30, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met with Executive Secretary Shamshad Akhtar of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), who was on a visit to the Republic of Korea for the eighth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

2. Minister Kang, commending the UN ESCAP for its role in the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the Asia-Pacific region, voiced hope that the new ROK government’s ongoing efforts to increase cooperation with Southeast Asian and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region will lead to a closer relations with ESCAP.

3. Executive Secretary Akhtar, taking note of the ROK’s role as the top donor country to ESCAP, mentioned that the organization is conducting strategic projects designed to integrate and enhance connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region and asked for the ROK’s continued cooperation and contribution in that regard.
