Foreign Ministry to Hold Briefing Session on PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games for Diplomatic Corps and Foreign Companies in ROK

1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a briefing session on the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games for the diplomatic corps and foreign companies in the ROK at an international conference room on the third floor of the Foreign Ministry building at 15:00 on October 20, and explain the ROK government’s commitment and efforts to host a safe and peaceful Olympics.

2. The briefing session will start with opening remarks by the Ambassador for Public Diplomacy on preparations for the adoption of a truce resolution at the UN General Assembly, and expectations for a peaceful Olympics to create a peaceful environment on the Korean Peninsula. They will be followed by the Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs’ explanations on the situation on the Korean Peninsula; a briefing on preparations for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games by the director-general for international relations of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games; and a question-and-answer session.

3. The upcoming briefing session is intended to muster international support for a peaceful Olympics and thereby contribute to a successful hosting of the PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games by serving as an opportunity to explain the ROK government’s commitment and efforts to host a peaceful Olympics, and share information on the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and the ROK’s diplomatic efforts to manage the situation in a stable manner.
