1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold the “8th invitation program for the ROK’s overseas honorary consuls for 2017” from October 23 to 28. The program, where 13 overseas honorary consuls will be invited to the ROK for about one week, aims to boost their morale, enhance their understanding of the ROK, and strengthen their bonds with the ROK.

2. The thirteen overseas honorary consuls from thirteen countries invited under the program will participate in various programs designed to help them understand the ROK’s politics, economy and culture, including a briefing session on the ROK’s foreign policy and the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games; a tour of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), and industrial and cultural facilities; and a networking meeting with senior Foreign Ministry officials.

o The overseas honorary consuls will also share exemplary cases of activities by honorary consuls, and exchange opinions on them.

3. The program, which marks its eighth this year since it started in 2010, is expected to help broaden the global pro-ROK network, and strengthen the ROK’s diplomatic capabilities, including in protecting Korean nationals overseas, as well as contribute to enhancing substantive cooperation between the ROK and each honorary consul’s home country.
