1. On October 20, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon, together with Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun of the US Department of State, held the first formal Republic of Korea-United States meeting of the head delegates to the Six-Party Talks since the inauguration of Special Representative Lee.

2. The two head delegates shared with each other their assessments of the recent moves and intentions of North Korea; and discussed in depth ways that the North can be induced to sincerely engage in denuclearization talks, while the situation on the Korean Peninsula is managed in a stable manner through diplomatic efforts, including tough sanctions and pressure on the North.

3. In addition, the two top delegates drew a common understanding that it is important to work with major countries based on close ROK-US collaboration. In particular, the two sides agreed to double efforts to induce China and Russia to play constructive roles in that regard.

4. The two head delegates, in order to achieve the shared goal of a peaceful and complete denuclearization of North Korea, agreed to communicate and coordinate with each other more frequently and closely on the occasions of various diplomatic, international and other events to come.
