High-level Conference on Development Experience Exchange Partnership (DEEP) Program for Vision of Vietnam to Take Place

1. A high-level conference on the second year of the “Development Experience Exchange Partnership (DEEP) program for the vision of Vietnam,” being conducted by the Foreign Ministry and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), will take place under the theme of Vietnam’s public sector reforms in Hanoi, Vietnam, on October 20. The conference will be attended by government officials of the two countries, including Director-General for Development Cooperation of the Foreign Ministry Jeong Jin-kyu, and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang, as well as related experts, including distinguished professor of Yonsei University Jun Kwang-woo (former Chairman of the Financial Services Commission).

* DEEP (Development Experience Exchange Partnership): KOICA’s development consulting program

o The “DEEP program for the vision of Vietnam,” an ROK-Vietnam joint research project (developing consulting) with a budget of US$2.2 million, conducts policy research and training programs, and hold briefing sessions and high-level conferences for three years from 2015 to 2018 in three areas -- △(topic of the first year) developing high-quality human resources, △(topic of the second year) reforms in the public sector, △(topic of the third year) establishing and improving a market economy.

2. At the upcoming high-level conference, participants will discuss the results of research on “reforms in the public sector,” a research theme for the second year. Participants are expected to make substantive suggestions on principles, goals and strategies to effectively reform Vietnam’s public sector in each area, including institutional and administrative reforms, governance reforms, reforms in human resource management, and reforms in financial management.

3. Researchers from the two countries began their research for the third year by holding a seminar to start the research under the theme “building and improving a market economy” on October 19.

4. The ROK government is expanding cooperation to link the ROK’s development experience with Vietnam’s need for practical policies in the areas of human resource management, public sector reforms, and the establishment of a market economy through the three-year development consulting project.
