2. The ROK and China, recognizing the gravity of the advancing North Korean nuclear capability and the urgent need to resolve the issue, reaffirmed the principle of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as well as their clear position regarding a peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue. On that note, they agreed to work together in managing the situation in a stable manner, including by deterring North Korea from launching any further provocations and alleviating tensions.

° In particular, the ROK and China agreed to work together to make the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games the “Olympics of peace,” while continuing efforts to prevent North Korean provocations.

3. The two sides underscored the need to bring North Korea back to denuclearization talks as soon as possible by thoroughly implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and through all other diplomatic means; and agreed to continue close consultations to seek ways to resume dialogue.

° In particular, the Chinese side, taking note of the ROK government’s efforts to improve its relations with North Korea, emphasized its willingness to cooperate for such ROK efforts to bear tangible fruit.

4. The two sides, attaching significance to the outcome of the bilateral consultation on ways to improve the bilateral ties that had been announced earlier in the day, agreed to step up strategic communication and coordination to achieve progress on the North Korean nuclear issue, as announced.
