Vice Foreign Minister Lim Meets with Delegation from American Jewish Committee

1. On November 2, Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam met with a delegation from the American Jewish Committee (AJC), led by its Executive Director David Harris, during which the two sides exchanged views on the upcoming visit of President Trump to the Republic of Korea and the ROK-US relations as well as the North Korean nuclear issue.

2. Vice Minister Lim extended appreciation to the AJC for building cooperative networks between the Jewish community and Asian countries and steadily playing a role in the development of their relations through its 30-year-old Asia Pacific Institute (API). He asked the AJC to continue paying attention and rendering support in this regard.

3. Vice Minister Lim mentioned that the ROK expects President Trump’s visit to the ROK the next week to serve as an opportunity to further beef up the ROK-US alliance and to reaffirm the bilateral coordination toward a peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue. He went on to ask the AJC to cooperate for the success of the visit.

° In addition, the Vice Minister brought attention to the ROK’s efforts to make the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games the “Olympics of peace,” where the entire humanity is brought together for festivities and peace; and asked for the AJC’s keen attention to the PyeongChang Olympics.

4. AJC Executive Director Harris, citing the AJC’s continued, strong support for the ROK-US alliance, expressed certitude that the two countries will reap many good results from President Trump’s visit to the ROK. He added that going forward, the AJC will remain close to the ROK and the Korean community in the US, and strongly support the efforts to strengthen the ROK-US alliance and to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.
