International Conference titled “International Affairs in East Asia and ROK-Japan Relations: Towards Mature and Future-oriented ROK-Japan Relations” to Take Place

1. The Center for Japanese Studies at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) will hold an international conference under the theme “international affairs in East Asia and ROK-Japan relations: towards mature and future-oriented ROK-Japan relations” at the auditorium of the Diplomatic Archives from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., November 28.

2. At the upcoming conference, participants will look at developments that occurred around the time when the Moon Jae-in government and the fourth Abe Cabinet were launched in 2017, including North Korea’s repeated nuclear and missile provocations, the launch of the Trump administration in the US, and the beginning of President Xi Jinping's second term. They will also review the current state of the ROK-Japan relations, and discuss ways to work towards mature and future-oriented relations between the two countries.

3. The forthcoming conference will start with an address by IFANS President Paik Ji-ah, and the first session will feature presentations by Professor Park Young-joon of Korea National Defense University, and Professor Lee Jong-won, the head of the Institute of Korean Studies at Waseda University. The second session will feature presentations by Professor Kimiya Tadashi, the Director of the Center for Contemporary Korean Studies at the University of Tokyo, and Professor Lee Won-deog, the Director of the Institute of Japanese Studies at Kookmin University.
