Outcome of Meeting of ROK and Russian Top Negotiators for Six-Party Talks

1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Igor Morgulov for a meeting of the ROK and Russian top negotiators for the Six-Party Talk in Seoul on November 27.

2. The two sides shared their assessments of the current situation regarding North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, and engaged in in-depth discussions on ways to work together to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue peacefully, under the firm principle of no tolerance for a nuclear North Korea, which was reaffirmed by the leaders of the ROK and Russia in their meeting.

o They shared the view that now it is more important than anything else to manage the situation in a stable manner, and agreed to continue joint efforts to deter another provocation by North Korea. They also agreed to continue to faithfully implement the Security Council’s sanctions resolutions on North Korea, and work together to bring the North to the negotiation table.

3. With the meeting between the ROK and Russian top negotiators for the Six-Party Talks, the ROK top negotiator has held bilateral meetings with all of his counterparts from the US, China, Japan and Russia. The ROK will continue close consultations between top negotiators for the Six-Party Talks.
