Vice Chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference to Visit ROK at Invitation of Foreign Ministry

1. Vice Chairman Leung Chun-ying of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will visit the Republic of Korea from November 28 till December 1 for the Foreign Ministry’s “invitation program for influential Chinese figures.”

※ The Foreign Ministry has been conducting the “invitation program for influential Chinese figures” since 2005 to enhance bond with high-level officials of China and render them pro-ROK.

- Communist Party Secretaries Wang Xiancui and Chen Miner of Heilongjiang and Guizhou provinces, respectively, visited the ROK in 2016 for the program.

2. During Vice Chairman Leung’s visit to the ROK, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will meet with him for a discussion on ways to enhance the ROK-China and ROK-Hong Kong relations and to promote the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to Hong Kong and the other parts of Greater China.

° The Vice Chairman will also pay a courtesy call on National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun and deliver a keynote speech at the international conference on “the ROK and Greater China” to be co-hosted by the Korea Foundation and Incheon National University on December 1.

3. On November 29, Vice Chairman Leung will visit Gangwon-do (province), the venue of the PyeongChang Olympics. During the visit to the province, he will hold meetings with its Vice Governor Chung Man-ho and Executive Vice President Kim Jae-youl of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to be briefed on the progress in the preparations for the sporting event, and will tour Olympic facilities.

4. The forthcoming visit of Vice Chairman Leung to the ROK is expected to serve as a good opportunity to boost exchanges and cooperation between the ROK and China and between the ROK and Hong Kong as well as to promote the PyeongChang Olympics to Greater China.
