ROK and Japan to Hold 18th Consultation on Development Cooperation Policy

1. The Foreign Ministry will hold the 18th Republic of Korea-Japan consultation on development cooperation policy in Tokyo, Japan, on November 29. The ROK and Japanese head delegates to the consultation will be Director-General for Development Cooperation Jeong Jin-kyu and Director-General for Global Issues Hideo Suzuki of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.

※ Japan’s ODA volume in 2016 (tentative): 16.759 billion US dollars (net expenditures), 0.20% (ODA/gross national income, GNI)
※ The ROK’s ODA volume in 2016 (tentative): 2.04 billion US dollars (net expenditures), 0.14% (ODA/GNI)

2. In the forthcoming policy consultation, the two sides will exchange views on efficient governance for development cooperation; and discuss matters of mutual concern, including ways to implement sustainable development goals (SDGs), issues concerning global healthcare, and ways to forge inclusive partnership with the private sector.

3. In the consultation with Japan, the ROK Foreign Ministry will seek various ways to work together on development cooperation on the global stage and to cultivate an official development assistance (ODA) “ecosystem” through innovative private-public cooperation. The two sides will also discuss the possibility of consulting each other to seek out joint projects in the field of development cooperation as well as other ways to work together on relevant policies and projects.
