Meeting of ROK and Japanese Top Negotiators at Six-Party Talks to Take Place

1. Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon will meet with Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau Kenji Kanasugi of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 8 for a meeting of the ROK and Japanese top negotiators at the Six-Party Talks. Director-General Kenji Kanasugi will visit the ROK to attend an ROK-Japan Director-General-level meeting.

 

2. In the upcoming meeting of the ROK and Japanese top negotiators at the Six-Party Talks, which will follow the meeting of the ROK and Chinese top negotiators at the Six-Party Talks on January 5, the two sides will share their assessments of the situation on the Korean Peninsula after the North Korean leader delivered his New Year’s address, and engage in in-depth discussions on ways to step up diplomatic efforts to achieve the goal of improving inter-Korean relations and resolving the North Korean nuclear issue in a peaceful manner.

 

3. The ROK government will continue consultations with the US side on North Korea and its nuclear issue, drawing upon the results of the aforementioned meetings with China and Japan. The ROK government is coordinating schedules to do so.
