1. On September 6, New York time, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea asked the United Nations Secretariat to circulate the English-language version of the “Panmunjom Declaration on Peace, Prosperity and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula” as an official document of the UN General Assembly and Security Council.

° The request was made in a letter to UN Secretary-General Guterres co-signed by the ROK’s Permanent Representative to the UN Cho Tae-yul and the DPRK’s Acting Permanent Representative to the UN Kim In Ryong. (The letter and the English version of the Panmunjom Declaration are attached.)

° The request came as a measure taken by the ROK and the DPRK at the UN in a follow-up on the inter-Korean summit talks held on April 27, 2018. The official document is expected to be circulated after the UN Secretariat completes editing and proofreading it.

3. The document, when circulated at the UN as jointly requested by the ROK and the DPRK, is expected to help reaffirm the two countries’ commitment to the implementation of the measures stipulated in the “Panmunjom Declaration” and broaden international support for the Declaration.
