1. Amb. Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, will visit the French Republic for “the 3rd Republic of Korea-French Republic high-level meeting on ways to respond to the North Korean nuclear issue” with Mr. Nicolas de Rivière, Director-General for Political Affairs and Security of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, on September 12.
2. In the forthcoming meeting, the two sides will share assessments of the current situation on the Korean Peninsula ahead of the inter-Korean summit talks set for next week, and discuss in depth ways that the ROK and France can work together toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
3. France, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and an important member state of the European Union, has been paying much attention and playing a significant role in the international community with respect to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Accordingly, the ROK government, together with France, held the first and second high-level meetings on ways to respond to the North Korean nuclear issue in January and December 2017, respectively, in a bid to maintain and step up strategic cooperation between the two countries on this issue.
