MOFA Holds First Interministerial Meeting for Implementation of “Indo-Pacific Strategy”

1. Director-General for Strategy of MOFA Woo, Jung-Yeop chaired the first interministerial working-level meeting for the implementation of the “Indo-Pacific Strategy,” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul on June 27, 2023.


※ The meeting was attended by director-level officials from 13 other ministries and government agencies: Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Financial Services Commission, Korea Coast Guard 


2. After the announcement of the “Indo-Pacific Strategy“ on December 28 last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has held two internal meetings on February 3 and April 27 to discuss a system for the implementation of the strategy and to prepare detailed implementation plans. In the meeting on June 27, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared the progress and developments to date, and communicated closely with relevant ministries.  


3. Director-General Woo particularly emphasized the importance of establishing an efficient interministerial system for the implementation of the strategy and identifying detailed tasks to develop long-term implementation plans, as this year marks the beginning of full-fledged implementation of the Indo-Pacific Strategy.


4. Furthermore, Director-General Woo asked for cooperation of all ministries, with the aim of publishing the detailed implementation plans with flagship projects for each of the 9 core lines of effort, on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the announcement of the Indo-Pacific Strategy.


5. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to make efforts so that the Republic of Korea can play a more active role not only in the Indo-Pacific, but also in the process of shaping international order and norms that align with the vision of freedom, peace, and prosperity. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work closely with all ministries to ensure the successful implementation of the Indo-Pacific Strategy, as it requires a whole-of-government approach.
