1. Chung Byung-won, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting on October 26 with Michael Müller and Andreas Laemmel, members of the German Social Democratic Party who are in charge of the Party's major foreign policy and of addressing current issues. During the meeting, the two sides discussed various topics such as the relationship between Korea and Germany, and situations on the Korean Peninsula and in key regions of the world.

2. Deputy Minister Chung noted with appreciation that the relationship between Korea and Germany, which mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, is evolving into a comprehensive cooperative relationship through close cooperation not only on bilateral matters but also on global issues such as supply chain instability and climate change. He also mentioned that as agreed upon in the two recent bilateral summit meetings, the two countries are expected to deepen future-oriented cooperation in areas such as hydrogen, semiconductors, biotechnology and clean energy by building on their robust trade and investment.

3. Deputy Minister Chung expressed grave concerns over recent military cooperation between North Korea and Russia amid the former’s continued nuclear and missile development. In response, the German Bundestag parliamentarians voiced their continuous support for the Korean government's efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula and reunification vision.

4. The two sides agreed on the need to strengthen communication and solidarity over their respective Indo-Pacific strategies and discussed major international issues, including the situation in the Middle East.

5. Deputy Minister Chung stated that World Expo 2030, if held in Busan, will serve as a platform for cooperation and solidarity through which to draw a blueprint for the resolution of global challenges such as sustainable development, climate change and digital disparities, and for long-term cooperation on those issues. On that note, he requested interest and support of the Social Democratic Party, a major party in the German Bundestag, regarding Korea’s World Expo bid.
