1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin, who is on a visit to the United Kingdom to accompany President Yoon Suk Yeol on his state visit to the UK, had a breakfast meeting with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs David Cameron at the Foreign Secretary’s official residence on November 21 at 08:30-09:10 (local time), and discussed issues of common interest, including bilateral relations, key regional affairs, and substantive cooperation.

2. The two sides appreciated President Yoon Suk Yeol and the First Lady’s meaningful state visit to the UK this year, which marks the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and the UK. Foreign Minister Park stated that this state visit is especially significant as the leaders of the two countries elevated the bilateral relations to a Global Strategic Partnership by signing the Downing Street Accord. The two sides agreed to strengthen strategic communication between the two countries, as true global strategic partners, in a range of areas, including regional affairs, advanced technology, and development cooperation, and also continue to work more closely together at international organizations, including the United Nations Security Council, G20, and G7.

3. The two sides expressed concern over North Korea’s continued nuclear and missile provocations. They also condemned in unison the arms trade between Russia and North Korea that violates UN Security Council resolutions, and emphasized the international community’s resolute and unified response to this. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Park explained the Korean government’s North Korea policy, including the Audacious Initiative, and raised the seriousness of North Korea’s cryptocurrency theft. The two sides looked forward to continued cooperation on this issue at the Security Council, with Korea serving as a non-permanent member of the Security Council (for the 2024-25 term).

4. The two sides exchanged views on the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, and agreed to continue cooperation on regional developments as global strategic partners. They also expressed hope to further enhance development cooperation between the two countries based on the bilateral “strategic development partnership” signed during this state visit.

5. In addition, Foreign Minister Park requested the UK’s support for Korea’s bid to host the World Expo in Busan. He also congratulated Foreign Secretary Cameron on his inauguration on November 13, and expected that Foreign Secretary Cameron, with his rich diplomatic experience accumulated during his tenure as Prime Minister (2010-2016), would contribute significantly to advancing Korea-UK relations. Foreign Minister Park invited him to visit Korea. The two sides agreed to communicate more closely on various regional and global issues, as well as bilateral issues, through dialogue channels between the two countries.
