Korea-Mauritius Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Takes Place

1. On Monday, December 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin held a meeting with Maneesh Gobin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius, during which the two sides discussed Korea-Mauritius relations, substantive cooperation, bilateral cooperation on the global stage, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

 

 Foreign Minister Gobin visited Korea from December 3 to 6 as part of MOFA’s invitation program.

 

2. Foreign Minister Park appreciated that this visit, which follows the Korea-Mauritius Summit held in September on the occasion of the G20 Summit, has contributed to strengthening the bilateral relations. Foreign Minister Gobin expressed appreciation for the invitation to Korea and hoped that the two countries maintain the momentum of close exchanges and collaboration.

 

3. Foreign Minister Park stated that there is great potential for bilateral cooperation in various fields, as Mauritius is a leading economy and democracy in Africa, as well as Korea’s key partner in the African region along the Indian Ocean coast under the Korean government’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. Foreign Minister Gobin appreciated Korea’s willingness to make contributions in the international community and looked forward to exploring diverse areas of cooperation together.

 

4. Foreign Minister Park looked forward to seeing Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth at the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit which will contribute to building a reciprocal, sustainable and long-lasting relationship between Korea and Africa. Foreign Minister Gobin appreciated Korea’s determination to strengthen cooperation with Africa and promised to provide his utmost efforts in this regard.

 

5. The two sides agreed to make continuous efforts in further strengthening the Korea-Mauritius collaboration which has been centered on development and infrastructure cooperation as well as in expanding the basis for promoting economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. 

 

6. The two Foreign Ministers agreed on the importance of the international community’s firm and united response to North Korea’s unprecedented level of provocations and committed to collaborating closely in this regard.

 

7. The Korea-Mauritius Foreign Ministers’ meeting served as an opportunity to lay a cornerstone for further strengthening Korea’s friendly relationship and substantive cooperation with Mauritius, a leading economy in Africa, in advance of the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit.
