Minister of Foreign Affairs Has Meeting with U.S. Chamber of Commerce

1. In Washington D.C., the United States, on February 27, local time, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul had a meeting with representatives of major U.S. enterprises that are members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and operating in Korea. The meeting marked the Foreign Minister’s second with businesspeople during his visit to the U.S. following the one with Korean companies operating in New York on February 24.

Foreign Minister Cho stressed that, amid the need for a holistic approach to interlinked economy, security and technologies, it is very important that the governments and companies of Korea and the U.S. -- allies facing shared security and economic threats -- work together to maximize supply chain stability and economic opportunities through close communication. The Foreign Minister, stating that the Korean government is making efforts to become one of the world's best countries for business operation, asked U.S. companies to more actively expand investment in Korea. Furthermore, he shared the Korean government’s active efforts to establish new international norms and protect the rules-based international order including hosting the Summit for Democracy in March and the AI Safety Summit in May of this year. On that note, he requested U.S. enterprises’ interest and support.

 

3. The representatives of leading U.S. companies in various areas, including information technology (IT), bio technology and finance, who joined the meeting, commended the Korean government’s latest efforts, especially to improve Korea’s investment environment, saying that these efforts are helping enhance Korea’s political and economic standing. Senior Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Atul Keshap called for the Korean government's continued interest to ensure that actively operating companies of both countries increase investment and thereby create quality jobs and contribute to economic growth of both countries.
