1. Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul exchanged congratulatory letters with Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Enrique A. Manalo on March 3, the day of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and the Philippines.

2. Foreign Minister Cho assessed that the Philippines holds a special place in the hearts of the Korean people, and over the past 75 years of affinity and cooperation, the bilateral ties have thrived in all fields including, in particular, trade, development cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. He also expressed hope that in commemorating the 75th anniversary this year, the establishment of a "Strategic Partnership" will continue to grow bilateral cooperation to new heights in the years leading up to the centennial of friendship.

3. Secretary Manalo assessed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the bilateral relations have advanced in a successful manner based on shared values of freedom and democracy, common aspiration for peace, stability, and prosperity, and commitment to work closely together in addressing common challenges and opportunities. He also noted that the two countries have successfully operated various consultative mechanisms, including dialogues on consular affairs, maritime cooperation, and policies, and expressed hope to further expand cooperation into new areas by elevating bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership.
