Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun Meets with Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Robert Kupiecki

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun met with Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Robert Kupiecki on March 18, on the occasion of Deputy Minister Kupiecki’s visit to Korea to attend the ministerial conference of the 3rd Summit for Democracy. They exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional and global affairs including the situation on the Korean Peninsula.  


2. Vice Minister Kim extended his appreciation to Deputy Minister Kupiecki on attending the ministerial conference of the Summit for Democracy. Mentioning the telephone conversation between the two Foreign Ministers the week before, Vice Minister Kim suggested to work together to further enhance the bilateral relations in strategic fields such as the defense industry, nuclear energy and infrastructure, marking the 10th anniversary of establishing the bilateral Strategic Partnership in 2023.


3. Vice Minister Kim expressed his hopes to continue the long-term continuous implementation of the unprecedented defense cooperation from 2022, and asked for Deputy Minister Kupiecki’s support with his expertise in security and defense fields. Deputy Minister Kupiecki said he will actively support various bilateral projects in the defense industry to ensure that they are carried on without delay.


4. Meanwhile, Vice Minister Kim and Deputy Minister Kupiecki exchanged their views on regional affairs such as the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the war in Ukraine. The two sides expressed concerns on North Korea’s continued provocations and its illegal military cooperation with Russia. They agreed to cooperate closely towards denuclearization of North Korea and cease the Russia-North Korea military cooperation. The two sides also affirmed a continuous cooperation in support for Ukraine and its reconstruction.
