Vice Minister Kang Insun Checks Safety of Korean Nationals Overseas and Protective Measures with Regard to Recent Developments in Middle East

1. On April 19, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Insun chaired a joint meeting between the headquarters and overseas diplomatic missions to check the safety of Korean nationals overseas and protective measures for them regarding the recent developments in the Middle East.


o The meeting was attended by Government Representative for Korean Nationals Overseas Protection and Consular Affairs Hong Seok-in and other senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Korean Ambassadors to Israel and Iran.


2. The meeting, a follow-up to the one chaired by Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul on April 15, was held to discuss the situation and security landscape in the Middle East as well as to come up with protective measures for Korean nationals overseas after the Iranian attack on Israeli territory.


3. Vice Foreign Minister Kang requested the participants to make every effort to ensure the safety of Korean nationals overseas and to maintain around-the-clock communication channels between the headquarters and overseas diplomatic missions, while closely monitoring possible dramatic changes in the Middle East landscape.
