1. From May 14 to 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a commemorative event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

2. FEALAC is an inter-regional multilateral organization launched in 1999 with the aim to increase cooperation and understanding between East Asia and Latin America. Currently, there are 36 member countries (16 East Asian countries, 20 Latin American countries). Korea is playing an active role in promoting regional cooperation by hosting since 2011 the FEALAC Cyber Secretariat which seeks to facilitate communication among member countries and to support FEALAC’s activities.

3. The commemorative event at Gwanghwamun Square will feature an exhibition introducing FEALAC and Korea’s activities therein, photo booths themed around FEALAC member countries, and various side programs designed for citizens to enjoy such as coffee giveaways on May 14, live music performances on May 15, and a quiz event on May 16. Also, two crafting booths will be set up during the event period for citizens to make their own FEALAC-themed keychains and canvas bags.

4. “I hope this event will offer citizens an opportunity to enjoy various activities themed around East Asia and Latin America and to enhance their understanding on Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Han Byoung-jin, Director-General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
