- The Host City Selection Committee discussed the results of the on-site inspections of the candidate cities for the 2025 AELM conducted from May 20 to 22. -

- The three candidate cities -- Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongju, Incheon Metropolitan City, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (in Korean alphabetical order) -- presented their hosting plans for the 2025 AELM and held Q&A sessions. -

1. The third meeting of the Host City Selection Committee for the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) was held on June 7, 2024 from 14:00 to 17:20 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul.

※ Host city selection progress to date includes:

    - The first meeting of the Host City Selection Committee held on March 21 to establish the criteria for host city selection

    - Applications received from provincial governments from March 27 to April 19

    - The second meeting of the Host City Selection Committee held on May 7 to determine three candidate cities and on-site inspection plan

    - On-site inspections of the three candidate cities from May 20 to 22

  ㅇ At this meeting, the results of on-site inspections of the three candidate cities -- Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongju, Incheon Metropolitan City, and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (in Korean alphabetical order) -- conducted from May 20 to 22 were discussed along with the presentations of each candidate city’s hosting plans.

2. Representatives of each candidate city* presented their plans for hosting the 2025 AELM, followed by Q&A sessions with the members of the Host City Selection Committee.

    * ▴Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo and Gyeongju City Mayor Joo Nak-young; ▴Incheon Metropolitan City Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok; and ▴Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Governor Oh Young-hun attended the meeting as representatives of the respective candidate cities.

  ㅇ Based on the results of the on-site inspection of the three candidate cities carried out last month, the members of the Host City Selection Committee mostly inquired about the purpose and basic plan for hosting the 2025 AELM, the suitability of city conditions and infrastructures to host international conferences, as well as contributions to the major national policy agenda and regional development.

3. The Host City Selection Committee will comprehensively evaluate each candidate city’s application, the on-site inspection results, discussions and comments at three meetings of the Host City Selection Committee, and the candidate cities’ presentations and prepare a draft proposal on the selection of the 2025 AELM host city. Then, the Korea APEC 2025 Organizing Committee will make a decision on the proposal and conclude the selection process.
