First Vice Foreign Minister Attends 4+1 (Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and European Union) Vice Foreign Ministerial Meeting

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun held a virtual vice-ministerial meeting on Wednesday, July 31, with Secretary General of the European External Action Service of the European Union Stefano Sannino, Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Okano Masataka, Australian Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade Jan Adams, and New Zealand Deputy Chief Executive - Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Tahamoana Macpherson.


2. This 4+1 vice-ministerial meeting marked the third of its kind following the two meetings held last year. The participants shared evaluations of geopolitical developments in the Indo-Pacific region and discussed potential fields of future cooperation including economic security, cybersecurity, Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), and public diplomacy. In particular, Vice Minister Kim asked for the participants’ attention to and participation in the upcoming second Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain (REAIM) Summit, which will take place in Seoul from September 9 to 10.
