ROK Government Decides to Provide Humanitarian Aid to 4 Southern African Countries in Response to Droughts

1. Due to severe droughts exacerbated by climate change in Southern Africa, millions of people in the region are facing famine and malnutrition. Accordingly, several countries, including the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Zambia, the Republic of Malawi and the Republic of Namibia, have declared a state of either disaster or emergency.


2. The government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide US$3 million in humanitarian aid to the four countries through the World Food Programme (WFP) to support ongoing relief efforts in response to the droughts.


※ Of the amount, the Republic of Zimbabwe will receive US$1 million, the Republic of Zambia US$1 million, the Republic of Malawi US$500,000 and the Republic of Namibia US$500,000.


3. The ROK government hopes that its humanitarian aid to the four countries would contribute to mitigating the crisis in the region.
