1. The REAIM regional workshop for Africa was held in Nairobi, Kenya, from Wednesday, June 5, to Thursday, June 6.

2. This REAIM regional workshop was the fourth of its kind, following the ones held in Asia (February 26-27 in Singapore), Southeast Europe, the Middle East, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia (May 22-23 in Türkiye), and Europe and North America (virtual on May 30). The event was organized in partnership with the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD Centre) and the National Defence University-Kenya.

3. In addition to the co-hosting countries -- Kenya, the Netherlands, and the Republic of Korea -- officials from the foreign and defense ministries of 12 countries* in Africa, as well as regional organizations, participated in the REAIM regional workshop. Experts from the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) as well as experts from the region also attended the workshop.

4. Participating countries exchanged information on their national approaches, policies and practices pertaining to responsible application of AI in the military domain.

5. This regional workshop aimed to enhance regional understanding and engagement on the military application of AI in the run-up to the second REAIM Summit. The last REAIM regional workshop is planned to be held in Chile for Latin American and Caribbean countries to continue to promote regional understanding and engagement.

6. The REAIM Summit is global dialogue aimed at exploring ways for cooperation and exchanging insights for the responsible development, deployment and use of AI in the military domain. As part of its efforts to contribute as a Global Pivotal State to establishing international norms for the responsible use of AI, the Republic of Korea, together with the Netherlands, hosted the first REAIM Summit in The Hague in February 2023. The second REAIM Summit will be held in Seoul from September 9 to 10 this year.
