A Private-Public Joint Delegation for Cooperation in E-Government Visits the Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru on August 3-12

1. The Foreign Ministry, together with the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, will send a private-public joint delegation for cooperation in electronic public administration system (e-government) to the Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru during August 3-12 to promote the ROK’s e-government system, enhance bilateral cooperation in e-government and pave the way for the ROK companies’ entries into their markets.

o The delegation, led by Shim Deok-seob, Director-General for E-government of the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, consists of personnel from relevant private companies and officials from government ministries and their affiliates, including the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Public Procurement Agency, the National Emergency Management Agency, the National Information Society Agency, and Intelligent Transport Systems Korea.

2. During its visit to the Dominican Republic on August 3-6, the delegation, jointly with the Presidential Office of Information and Communication Technologies of the Dominican Republic (OPTIC), will hold a ROK-Dominican Republic forum on cooperation in e-government. At the forum, the delegation will explain the ROK’s e-government policies and discuss ways to cooperate on e-government standard framework, safety system for emergencies, intelligent transport system, and e-procurement system. The delegation will also meet with high-level officials responsible for e-government affairs, including Public Administration Minister Ramon Ventura.

o In addition, at the request of the Presidential Office of the Dominican Republic, officials from the National Emergency Management Agency, the National Information Society Agency and the private sector will provide consulting services from August 6 to 9 for technical cooperation on the country’s “911 emergency system.”

3. During its trip to Panama on August 6-8, the delegation, together with Panama’s National Authority for Government Innovation, will host a ROK-Panama forum on cooperation in e-government. At the forum, the two sides will enhance their understanding of e-government policies of both countries and seek to increase cooperation in e-government standard framework, intelligent transport system and e-procurement system.

o The delegation will also meet with Eduardo Jaén, General Administrator of the National Authority for Government Innovation, and visit the “Panama Information Access Center” located in the “City of Knowledge” in Panama City. The Center has operated with the support of the ROK since September 2012.

4. During its visit to Peru on August 8-10, the delegation will hold a meeting of e-government experts to explore new areas for substantive cooperation between the two countries. The delegation will also visit Peru’s National Office for Electronic Government and Information (ONGEI), examine the current status of the country’s e-government system and discuss ways to increase bilateral cooperation.

5. The upcoming dispatch of the delegation is expected to promote the ROK’s e-government system in the Latin American countries, enhance substantive cooperation in e-government between the ROK and the countries and pave the way for the ROK companies’ entries into their e-government markets.
