Minister Yun Requests Asian Political Parties’ Contribution to Resolving Global Issues at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Special Conference

1. Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will host a luncheon at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul on September 13 for about 150 lawmakers and politicians from around 40 countries participating in the 7th International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Special Conference (theme: women’s leadership and empowerment).

2. During the luncheon, Minister Yun Byung-se will note the importance of inter-party diplomacy and request political parties’ contribution to resolving global issues. Minister Yun will also explain the ROK’s policies on women the Park Geun-hye government has pursued to achieve the happiness of the ROK people, as well as the ROK’s participation in international efforts to promote women’s rights and empowerment.

o The ROK government is serving as a member of the UN Women Executive Board and a member state of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The ROK, as a member of the UN Security Council, is also actively participating in the UNSC’s discussions on women. Minister Yun recently accepted the ROK’s participation as a champion in the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative led by the UK.

o In a bid to map out a national action plan for a domestic implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, the ROK government created a private-public consultation and has gathered opinions of the civil society.

o In addition, the ROK government is conducting a variety of projects in the area of international development cooperation, with a focus on protecting women’s rights and empowering women.

3. Minister Yun will request the ICAPP continue to contribute to regional peace and stability by facilitating discussions between Asian political parties on global issues and ways to solve them together.
