ROK and China to Hold their 23rd Academic Conference

1. The 23rd academic conference between the Republic of Korea and China will take place at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) on July 15. The ROK-China academic conference is an annual event hosted by the KNDA’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) and the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), an affiliate of China's Foreign Ministry, since the establishment of the ROK-China diplomatic relations in 1992.

2. The conference will consist of presentations on the security in Northeast Asia; the situations in North Korea and on the Korean Peninsula; and ways to vitalize the ROK-China economic cooperation by relevant experts of the two countries. Free discussion sessions will follow for the participants to engage in in-depth discussions on the impact of the regional order in Northeast Asia and the US’ rebalancing policy on the security in East Asia; an outlook on the situation on the Korean Peninsula in the second half of the year 2014 and ways for the ROK and China to work together on issues concerning the Korean Peninsula; and the proposed ROK-China FTA and regional economic cooperation. The conference will be closed to the public.

3. The ROK-China academic conference will bring together ten experts from IFANS, including its President Shin Bong-kil and professors Shin Sung-won, Bae Geung-chan, Choe Won-gi and Jo Yang-hyeon; and six from the CIIS, including its Vice President Guo Xiangang and senior research fellows Yu Shaohua and Teng Jianqun.
