KNDA’s IFANS and the CIISS to Hold their 3rd Strategic Dialogue

1. The Center for Chinese Studies of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) under the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) and the China Institute of International Strategic Studies (CIISS) at the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China will hold their third Strategic Dialogue in Incheon on July 25.

2. In the wake of the visit to the Republic of Korea by President Xi Jinping of China in early July, the two countries made their bilateral strategic cooperative partnership more mature and substantial. At the upcoming Strategic Dialogue, the two sides will discuss the policy direction for strengthening their cooperation and contributing to stability in Northeast Asia and peace on the Korean Peninsula.


3. The forthcoming meeting themed “the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative and multilateral security cooperation” will consist of three closed-door sessions on the Asian paradox and the ROK-China cooperation; the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative; and multilateral security cooperation in Northeast Asia and building military trust.


4. The Strategic Dialogue with the CIISS takes place twice a year. The first of its kind was held in Seoul on April 10-11, 2013, followed by the second in Changchun, China, on August 8, 2013.


5. The ROK delegation to the upcoming meeting will include IFANS President Shin Bong-kil, Research Director of the Center for Chinese Studies Shin Jung-seung and the Foreign Ministry’s Director-General for North Korean Nuclear Affairs Lee Do-hoon. The Chinese side will comprise eight people, including CIISS Director Han Baojiang and the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Xu Bu.
