1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, will send a private-public delegation to Mexico, Chile and Ecuador from December 6 through 14 to seek closer cooperation in public healthcare between the Republic of Korea and the Latin countries and to pave the way for the ROK’s pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies’ entry into their markets.

2. Similar delegations were sent to Latin American countries in September 2013 and March 2014 to seek cooperation with their governments and to hold relevant business forums, thereby landing large-scale export contracts and winning automatic approval for Korean medical and pharmaceutical products as a result. The third such delegation, by building upon the achievements of their predecessors, will seek to maintain the momentum of growing cooperation and to increase concrete cooperation projects with Latin America in the field of public healthcare.

3. In Mexico on December 6-8, Chile on December 8-11 and Ecuador on December 11-13, the delegation will meet with senior officials handling public healthcare affairs, conclude or discuss the possibility of concluding relevant inter-governmental memoranda of understanding, and hold business forums on pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.

4. The forthcoming visit of the private-public delegation to the three Latin American countries is expected to greatly help step up cooperation with their governments based on the ROK’s high-quality public healthcare system and help expand the presence of the ROK’s pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies in their markets.
