Deputy Prime Minister Hwang to Attend the Asian-African Commemorative Summit for the 60th Anniversary of the Bandung Conference

1. Deputy Prime Minister Hwang Woo-yea, in his capacity as head delegate of the government of the Republic of Korea, will attend the Asian-African commemorative summit for the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, which will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 22 and 23.

◦ Deputy Prime Minister Hwang will also attend the commemorative ceremony for the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference set take place in the namesake city on April 24.

◦ Meanwhile, prior to the summit, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul will attend the ministerial meeting slated for April 20, where he will speak about the ROK government’s foreign policies toward Asia and Africa and convey its willingness to enhance cooperative ties with them.

2. The planned summit will come to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference, also known as the Bandung Conference, held back in 1995 as well as the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership. The participants of the meeting will engage in discussions on “Strengthening South-South Cooperation to Promote World Peace and Prosperity.”

3. Deputy Prime Minister Hwang will deliver a keynote speech at the summit to convey the willingness of the ROK to proactively contribute and cooperate toward peace and prosperity in Asia and Africa. He will also meet bilaterally with delegates from other Asian and African countries to actively implement diplomacy with those countries.

4. Deputy Prime Minister Hwang, by attending the Asian-African commemorative summit for the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, is expected to contribute greatly to the ROK government’s efforts to step up its diplomacy with Asian and African countries and thereby broaden its diplomatic horizon; and to efforts to enhance its relations with Indonesia.
