1. The 24th academic conference between the Republic of Korea and China will take place at the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), Beijing, on April 20, co-hosted by the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) and the CIIS.
* The ROK-China academic conference is an annual academic event co-hosted by IFANS and the CIIS, both of which are the Foreign Ministry-affiliated, state-funded think tanks of the two countries, since the establishment of the ROK-China diplomatic relations in 1992. As such, it is the longest-standing platform of academic exchanges between think tanks of the two countries.

2. The forthcoming conference will bring together eleven people. The ROK delegation will consist of eight experts from IFANS, including its President Shin Bong-kil and professors Bae Geung-chan, Choe Won-gi, Jo Yang-hyeon, Choi Woo-seon, Lee Ji-yong and Kim Han-gwon. The Chinese participants will include Vice President Guo Xiangang, Director of the Department for Asia-Pacific Security Yu Shaohua and Director of the Department for American Studies Teng Jianqun of the CIIS; and Xu Changwen, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce.

3. The conference will cover an assessment of the current security situation in Northeast Asia and its outlook; the potential impact of the concluded ROK-China FTA on the cooperation among the ROK, China and Japan; and ways for the ROK and China to work together for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

4. The meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to exchange practical views on matters of mutual concern in the fields of economy and security, including the US-China relations and the current security situation in East Asia; and ways to boost economic cooperation among countries in and out of the region, such as under China’s “One Belt and One Road” initiative.
