1. With the year 2015 marking the 50th anniversary of Korean immigration to Paraguay, President Cartes of Paraguay declared April 22, the day the first batch of Korean immigrants had set their feet in Paraguay half a century ago, as an official day of commemoration in a show of deep affection to the local Korean community.

◦ It marked the first time that the Paraguayan government has designated any anniversary of foreign immigration as a national day of commemoration.

2. In a bid to mark the occasion, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Paraguay will host a large-scale commemorative ceremony at the parliament building of the country.

◦ The commemorative ceremony for the 50th anniversary of Korean immigration to Paraguay will bring together the President of the Chamber of Deputies and a Vice President of the Senate from the Paraguayan parliament as well as the Minister of Education and Culture and other government officials of the country. The event will serve as a meaningful occasion where plaques of appreciation will be presented to the former leader of the local Korean community and the Immigration Service of Paraguay, which has rendered full support to Koreans for their settlement in the country.
