1. The third ROK-IAEA High-Level Consultation will take place at the Foreign Ministry on April 23, with Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs Shin Dong-ik and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards Tero Varjoranta leading their respective delegations.

2. At the Consultation, the two sides will extensively discuss ways to enhance cooperation in a range of areas, including responding to North Korea’s nuclear program and other global nuclear proliferation threats, strengthening nuclear security and safeguards, and promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

3. The ROK, the world’s fifth-largest producer of nuclear energy, was granted the “Broad Conclusions” by the IAEA in 2008. The ROK, as a model country in nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security, is placing a high priority on cooperation with the IAEA.

4. The ROK-IAEA High-Level Consultation, which was first held in 2013, is expected to contribute to strengthening the ROK-IAEA cooperation in nuclear non-proliferation, nuclear security, safeguards, and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
