1. The Government of the Republic of Korea has been making multifarious efforts, including holding eight rounds of director-general-level meetings with Japan since April 2014, to resolve the issue of sexual slavery victims drafted by Japan’s Imperial Army during World War II.

2. As stressed in the commemorative address by President Park Geun-hye on the 70th anniversary of liberation on August 15, the Japanese government should show a more proactive attitude toward an early resolution of the issue.

3. In particular, as the Japanese government mentioned in Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s statement marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II that the historical views “articulated by the previous cabinets will remain unshakable into the future,” the ROK government once again reminds the Japanese government that only when the latter takes sincere measures to resolve the issue of sexual slavery victims and the other pending historical issues between the two countries, can it demonstrate its historical views through actions.
