1. The Center for International Law at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) will host an international symposium under the theme “Evolution of International Arbitration and Asia,” sponsored by the Dong-A Ilbo, at the KNDA on October 28.

2. At the symposium, participants will discuss various issues regarding international arbitration and investor-state dispute cases, which have been increasing dramatically over the past 20-odd years, in terms of Asian experiences and perspectives, and explore the ROK’s measures to deal with the issues.

3. The upcoming symposium will bring together KNDA Chancellor Yun Duk-min (opening speech), Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) Hugo Siblesz, Director of the Center for International Law of the KNDA Shin Kak-soo, and experts in international arbitration and international law.

4. The symposium is expected to help reduce obstacles that can arise during complex international arbitration procedures and to promote the rule of law and compliance with international law in Asia by providing an opportunity to discuss recent trends in international arbitration and presenting the way forward.
