US Governor of Hawaii David Ige and his Spouse to Visit the ROK

1. US Governor of Hawaii David Ige and his spouse will visit the Republic of Korea from November 4 to 7 at the invitation of the ROK government (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and meet with the Chairman of the National Policy Committee of the National Assembly and the Acting Foreign Minister (First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs). They will also visit Seoul National University, the Sihwa tidal power plant, the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning, Inha University, and Incheon International Airport.

* This is the first visit to the ROK by Governor Ige.

2. Governor Ige’s visit to the ROK will serve as an opportunity to deepen economic cooperation between the ROK and Hawaii in new and renewable energy and other sectors, as well as to further strengthen exchanges and ties between the people of the two countries by expanding the horizon of cooperative relations in such areas as culture and education.

- Governor Ige’s visit to the ROK is expected to help deepen cooperative relations with Hawaii, which is a major tourist destination, visited by about 200,000 Koreans a year, and a state of strategic importance, playing a key role in the ROK’s security. His visit will also contribute to strengthening the momentum for economic cooperation between the ROK and Hawaii in developing and exporting new and renewable energy technologies, and facilitating people-to-people exchanges in the areas of education and culture.
