ROK and Indonesia Hold their 2nd Consultation on Consular Affairs

1. The second Republic of Korea-Indonesia consultation on consular affairs took place in Bali, Indonesia, on June 3, chaired by Deputy Director-General for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Jeong Jin-kyu of the ROK Foreign Ministry and Director for Consular Affairs Tri Tharyat of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.

2. The two sides discussed a wide range of consular issues between their two countries, including ways to work together to curtail the number of illegal Indonesian residents in the ROK and the ROK’s Employment Permit System.

3. In the meeting, the two sides agreed to make efforts to prevent the spread of Zika virus and other infectious diseases and share with each other piracy-related information. They also agreed to conclude a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports in a bid to vitalize exchanges between the governments of the two countries.

4. The two sides, sharing the view that the ROK-Indonesia consultative mechanism on consular affairs contributes greatly to the enhancement of mutual understanding and consular cooperation between their consular authorities, agreed to hold their next meeting in the ROK in 2016.
