1. The Foreign Ministry has been implementing the “rapid overseas remittance system” since 2007 to help nationals of the Republic of Korea who are in urgent need of money overseas after they lose and get their belongings stolen or because they happen to be hospitalized while overseas. Under the system, they can pick up wired money at the ROK’s diplomatic missions near them.

2. On July 7, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se presented plaques to the Presidents of Nonghyup Bank, Woori Bank and Suhyup Bank as tokens of appreciation for their cooperation with the Foreign Ministry’s “rapid overseas remittance system” to help in various ways ROK nationals in difficult situations while overseas.

3. The Foreign Ministry has been working to provide services to overseas Koreans in a way that is creative and meets their needs. Going forward, it will make more efforts to better protect and ensure the safety of overseas Koreans.

4. After the plaque awarding ceremony, Minister Yun held a working luncheon with the Presidents of the three banks and exchanged views with them on ways for the banks to build presence in Southeast Asian countries and the implications of Brexit for the ROK economy.
