1. The Republic of Korea and Russia will hold a meeting of directors-general for international organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry on July 11, with Director-General for International Organizations Yoo Dae-jong of the ROK Foreign Ministry and his Russian counterpart Alexander Pankin leading their respective delegations.

2. The upcoming meeting of directors-general for international organizations will mark the first of its kind on the ROK-Russia cooperation at the UN. It will come pursuant to the “plan of exchanges between the ROK and Russian Foreign Ministries for the years 2016 and 2017,” which was signed by Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov during the former’s visit to Russia in June.

3. In the forthcoming meeting, the two countries will exchange views on such global issues as the UN’s peacekeeping operations, refugees and cyber security, as well as the operations of UN agencies, including the General Assembly and the Security Council. As such, it is expected to serve as a significant opportunity for the two countries to step up substantive cooperation at the UN and on other international stages.
