1. Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Lee Tae-ho will attend in his capacity as the head delegate of the government of the Republic of Korea the 14th session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Nairobi, Kenya, from July 17 to 22.

2. The UNCTAD is a high-level UN meeting on trade and development held every four years. Its forthcoming session themed “From Decisions to Actions” will cover ways that the international community can work together to achieve the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

3. On July 18, Deputy Minister Lee will deliver a keynote speech, in which he will speak about ways that the ROK will contribute to efforts to attain the sustainable development goals, including by helping developing countries develop their human resources; rendering assistance with capacity-building efforts in science, technology and trade; and sharing its experiences with Saemaul Undong (new community movement) as a strategy for agricultural and rural development.

4. Deputy Minister Lee will also attend an event marking the launch of the “eTrade for All” initiative, which will take place in conjunction with the UN meeting. He will take the opportunity to share with other participants the ROK’s experiences in and policy for boosting e-trade and increasing the use of e-commerce by small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and to propose ways to cooperate for the success of the initiative.

5. On the sidelines of the UN meeting, Deputy Minister Lee will meet bilaterally with his Kenyan counterpart Tom Amolo and discuss with him ways to promote economic cooperation.
